Well folks,
We've covered a lot of stuff and have a lot of deliverables (see list to the right). Enough is enough. For those of you who can make it, let's do the final on Tuesday. Bring your completed binder and come ready to take an essay test on turbines and generators as well as another small part on the various other learning we did.
For those who got grades that they are happy with on the midterm, you can turn that paper in for the turbine/generator part of the final.
For any of you who cannot make it on Tuesday, just contact me to set up a time for us to meet.

Turbine Paper Feedback
I just finished reading many of the drafts of the turbine papers. My first comment drives at what is the purpose of this assignment? and my answer to this question is improved learning of turbines.
Learning is deeper when you have to put the story of what you are learning into your own words. What I'm trying to say here is the value is not in the product of what you turn in, but in the process of how you communicated it.
This being said, I want to encourage you to meet the requirements for this report by writing, in your own words: the description of the components and their uses; the steam flow path and energy conversions; and some background on turbines. Overall the graphics were excellent.
One more thing, whenever you use somebody else's works, whether graphics or writing, you need to cite it in a bibliography type citation.

Homework Assignments from Thursday January 27th
Due Feb 8th -- In groups of 1, 2, or 3 build a model of a turbine. You can make it out of any materials you like - cardboard, plastic, foam, etc. The purpose is to have model that you can use for description purposes.
Due Feb 8th -- A class presentation (~10 minutes) on turbines. (you choose what turbine topics you want to cover, only requirements are to make it interesting and informative). Do in same groups of 1, 2, or 3.
Due Feb 3rd -- Create a written answer to the interview question, "So, tell us a little about yourself". The answer should take you 90-120 seconds to verbally answer. Include positive things that would help you get the job.
Due Feb 1st -- Do one hour of research on generators. Any info is good. Use your book or the internet or any resource you like. This is the beginning of our generator conversations.

January 27th in Class
* Today we worked together to develop a scoring guide for turbine reports. (Be sure to turn in your draft if you haven't already) - See below
*Then we brainstormed the attributes of what a good, bad, and no damage answer would be to the interview question - "So, tell us a little about yourself".
Other than that people worked in groups on developing plans for their turbine models and turbine presentations.

What we did in class on Thursday Jan 20th
Today we created a block diagram showing the path(s) of the steam from the exit of the boiler to the entrance of the condenser. If you missed class today, your makeup assignment is to create one of these diagrams and submit it to me (in paper or electronically).
